February 14, 2010, St. Petersburg, Russia, WSC-7 preconference course
Contact person: Dr. Juergen von Frese (jvf@da-sol.com)
Going beyond traditional linear data analysis approaches has been difficult due to the complexity of the available methods (e.g. neural networks) and their large sample requirements. Support vector machines from statistical learning theory provide an efficient means to overcome these limitations. Correspondingly they have gained widespread popularity e.g. in machinelearning, bioinformatics and increasingly also chemometrics.
The course participants get an introductory overview and learn how to apply these powerful methods systematically.
This course is intended for an audience with a basic knowledge about chemometrics, no prior knowledge of machine learning or support vector machines is required. The course language is English. The course is part of the conference and free of charge for conference participants.
Data Analysis Solutions is a recently founded services & consulting company helping its clients to make the most out of their biomedical and chemical data through tailored analysis solutions. It is based on more than 10 years of experience of its founder, Dr. Juergen von Frese, in industrial chemometrics and bioinformatics. He has given numerous talks and industrial courses all over Europe. One of his main focus areas has been on support vector machines for pattern recognition and he has used them successfully in numerous large scale projects.
