Scope and themes
Winter Symposium on Chemometrics (WSC) is an international scientific meeting held under the aegis of the Russian Chemometrics Society. It covers the whole scope of modern methods and applications of multivariate data analysis including quantitative and qualitative analysis, PAT, sampling theory, experimental design, image analysis, QSAR/ QSPR, and others.
From the outset, the organizers have tried and hopefully managed keeping an optimal balance between theoretical aspects of the data analysis and their practical applications. The conference brings together both academic scientists and industrial experts providing all conditions for their fruitful communication.
Traditionally, WSC is friendly to young scientists and those beginning to carve their way in the data analysis. Students' research works are neighboring presentations of venerable chemometricians here. Since 2005 Elsevier awards a special prize to the best poster and talk presented by a young(er) participant.
WSC is the first and the only conference on chemometrics in Russia. The conference was born as a part of the Drushbametrics project initiated about 10 years ago by a small group of enthusiastic individuals from Russia and Scandinavia. The main initial objective of Drushbametrics was the dissemination and popularization of chemometrics in Russia as well as establishing a bridge connecting Russian scientists to the international chemometric community. During six previous conferences held in Russia since 2002, WSC was internationally recognized for its solid scientific contents and intensive social program.

Social and cultural program is what makes the conference actually unique. Each conference day is accomplished by the famous "Scores & Loadings" party where the communication goes on in a less formal manner. The conference tours (note, the WSC venue has never been the same) let the guests feel the spirit of Russia. And of course it is a chance to experience real Russian winter.
